What place does fiction have in an international and globalized world?
Ideas
Story-telling
I believe that in order for people to care, there needs to an emotional connection personally towards the issues we face in an international and global context. Fiction engages people through story-telling. It gives a voice to those who are unable to speak. It allows us to use our imagination against a society that tells us to think a certain way. I think one of the biggest issues facing society today is that humanity lacks an emotional connection to the things that give and bring us life. Fiction often brings things to life, even if it is just our imagination. Who ever said dreams can't come true obviously didn't read fiction... :). Maybe I am wrong, but that's my thoughts on fiction for you Carly <3
Jesus as an International Developer
To live like Jesus.
Why was Jesus baptized? He became a part of something that was already on-going...
Luke 10:25 The Parable of the Good Samaritan
What mine is mine.
What is yours, isn't mine.
Why Jesus came as
Intimate relationship
How does God go about International Development. What part He plays... The Gospels'.

"Dead Aid"
by Moyo
"Why, asks Moyo, do the majority of sub-Saharan countries ‘flounder in a seemingly never-ending cycle of corruption, disease, poverty, and aid-dependency’, despite the fact that their countries have received more than US$300 billion in development assistance since 1970;" The answer she gives, African countries are poor because of all the aid they receive; "the poor poorer and the growth slower" (preface).
Introduction:
Has become a part of the entertainment industry- celebrities are doing it; a cultural commodity.
Development policy
The story is about the failure of aid; the Post-war development policy
Part I: The World of Aid
1. The Myth of Aid
There are three types of aid: humanitarian or emergency aid/ charity-based aid/ systematic aid (pg. 7).
The difference between loans and grants. Governments have to pay back loans, they have to "carry the burden of future repayment-" the repayments of loans, "induce governments to use funds wisely and to mobilize taxes and maintain current levels of revenue collection." Grants are seen as, "free resources-" "a perfect substitute for a governments domestic revenues."
The question we should ask is how these governments view the difference between loans and grants... How often are these loans 'forgiven?' Policymakers in poorer economies do not distinguish grants from loans (aid)- "it is practically irrelevant." (pg. 8).

Should Canada boycott the upcoming winter Olympic Games in Russia 2014?
Things to think about:
Things to think about:
- Huge business
- Economic and political costs and revenues
- What does the city gain? What does it cost the city?
- What are Human Rights? Who defines these rights...?
